Hurricane Hazel - 50 years later October 1954 Hurricane Hazel

Hurricane Hazel Personal Accounts

Paul Appleby, Nova Scotia
I was 10 years old at the time. We were living in North Toronto on Oriole Parkway just north of Eglinton Avenue. I remember our roof being narrowly missed by a very large tree branch. Also I remember walking on Roselawn from Oriole Parkway to Yonge Street and encountering what seemed like a lake formed over the road beside Eglinton Park. It seemed such fun at the time. We weren't personally hit by family tragedy like others. As I was just reminiscing with my mother-in-law, she told me of her ex-husband's cousin who was drowned along with her unborn child.
